Using the Library
Getting a library card
Having a library card means you can use both the Library and the sports facilities on campus.
When you register online you will be asked to upload an image for use on your library card. By uploading an image in advance your card can be pre-printed and be ready for collection when you arrive.
- Students in some on-campus accommodation blocks will receive their library cards when they arrive.
- All other pre-printed student cards can be collected from the Issue Desk in the Library during staffed periods.
Self-service photo booths
If you did not upload a photo during the Registration On-Line (ROL) process, the Library has a number of self-service photo booths where you can take a picture when you get here.
You will need to log in using your computing services username and password - the same ones you used for ROL.
Your card will be printed in the Library and you can collect it from the Issue Desk. At busy periods you may have to wait to receive your card.
Staffing times
During Arrivals Weekend, the Issue Desk will be staffed from 10am - 5pm on Sunday 22 September so that you can collect your card.
The Issue Desk is staffed from Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm during Freshers' Week.
The self-service booths will be open until 8pm in the evenings. Cards printed during unstaffed periods can be collected the next day.
Library services
In the Library you can:
- borrow and reserve books and request Inter-Library loans
- request copies of articles from journals and chapters of books held in the library
- use copy and print services
- use PC workstations.
The Issue Desk also deals with borrowing, renewing and returning books and provides advice on avoiding library fines. Find out more about library training and resources.
