Would you like to win up to £800 for writing an essay?

Can you write an article that is both original, captivating and topical?

If  so, you may be interested in entering the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) Student Essay Award, sponsored by the University of Bath, which is now open.

This year there are two categories - Postgraduate and Undergraduate with one winner in each category.

If you're on a Masters degree or higher you are eligible to enter the postgraduate category where one winner will receive an £800 cash prize, free attendance at the IEMA Conference (one of the leading environmental conferences), the publishing of your essay in the environmentalist (one of the highest regarded environmental magazines in the UK) and free attendance on an Associate certificate course which awards Associate membership of IEMA on successful completion, courtesy of the University of Bath!

Bachelors students and below take part in the undergraduate category where one winner will receive the same rewards as above, with a cash prize of £600.

Your essay must be based on the environment, environmental issues and/or sustainable development and must be an original piece of work that has not already been published.

The competition is open to all full and part-time students. You do not have to be on an environmental course to enter the competition - last year's postgraduate winner was a Pharmacology student and the undergraduate was studying International Management.

More details about the competition can be found at www.iema.net/studentessayaward  where you can also download last year's winning essays.

Closing date for entries is Friday 19 June 2009
