Support for women in business

Women thinking of setting up their own businesses are being given the skills to do it with a course run by the University of Bath.

The Women into Enterprise course is organised by the Division for Lifelong Learning and aims to develop business ideas, contacts and help people explore the idea of becoming self-employed.

It currently holds the Prowess Start-Up Award for Excellence in Women's Enterprise Development. The Flagship Award is a national quality standard developed by Prowess, the UK voice for women's enterprise.

The Flagship Award is recognised by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and several Regional Development Agencies.

The course is run part-time to fit around other commitments. In addition there are one day business workshops, monthly women's networking events, and free taster sessions.

The morning course runs on Fridays 10.45am-12.45pm, with free crèche places, starting 25 September 2009. The evening course runs on Wednesdays 6pm-9pm, starting 14 October 2009, and the full day course is held on Thursdays 10am-3.30pm, starting 4 February 2010. It is being run at Carpenter House in Bath and costs £150 a module or £400 for all three.

Delia Slucutt, Women's Enterprise Co-ordinator, said: "Women into Enterprise offers the female perspective on business: the chance to discuss with others how to find the balance between business and family life, share knowledge and experience, and learn from a female tutor who has gone out there and started a business.

"For women who want to explore their self employment options, Women into Enterprise is a great way forward."
