On Sunday 11 October a team of American Civil War re-enactors will be staging a practise march around the campus.
The walk is to prepare the 32 members of the marching team for the Adidas half-marathon at Silverstone race track on 14 March 2010.
They will be marching in full period American Civil War uniform in order to highlight the importance of historical education as well as raising money for the Army Benevolent fund (ABF) – a charity which raises money for soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need.
Mike Simpkin from the team said: “We spend most of our spare time travelling round the country putting on re-enactments to help others to learn about history and the people that have helped create the world as it is today. It is a hobby that the whole family can enjoy and get a lot out of. Proof of this is the March for Charity team which includes fathers, sons, mothers, daughters and three generations of one family.”
The march starts at 11.30am and support on the day is welcome, if you would like to know more information about the team and the march or make a donation please visit the March for Charity website.
