There will be delicious homemade cakes and second-hand books for sale today (Monday 26 October) at midday on the Parade.
All money raised will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support.
For those who find choosing a slice of cake difficult, don’t worry – there will be special pre-made goody bags containing a variety of cakes available for you to enjoy, share with friends or take back to the office to share with your colleagues.
Or why not earn some serious brownie points with your housemates and come and create your own ‘flat packs’ by selecting some tasty treats to go?
Sarah Moore, School for Health staff member, is holding the sale as part of her fundraising mission for Macmillan.
Sarah is preparing to get on her bike in five weeks time and cycle more than 680km (420 miles) across Central America, on one of the greatest cycling experiences for Macmillan Cancer Support.
This is the second cake sale Sarah has held on campus, the first one in May raised a staggering £225 for Macmillan. She said: “I am really excited to be bringing back some tasty homemade treats for everyone to enjoy. This one will be bigger and better and people can enjoy starting a new book as they eat their cake!
“I have five weeks until I fly to Panama and I’m getting very excited about the challenge ahead.
“I have never done anything like this bike ride in my life. I have done a few running events and half marathons before and not taken the time to raise a lot of money for charity so I wanted to finally do my bit and help make a difference to people’s lives affected by cancer.
“I was shocked to recently learn that in the two weeks I am on the challenge over 11,000 people will be diagnosed with cancer in the UK. That’s terrifying – but makes me more determined to raise as much money as possible.
“I have been overwhelmed by the incredible support I have already received through people’s kind donations.”
Even if you don’t want to buy a book or cake, donations will be welcome. Sarah also has a JustGiving page.
The 13-day challenge from 21 November–3 December 2009 will see Sarah cycle 420 hot, humid miles, from Panama City to Lake Nicaragua, taking in the beautiful Costa Rican coast along the way.
The challenge takes Sarah off the tourist trail through lush rainforests and over rugged coastline and mountains on this epic journey across the varied cultures and terrains of three astonishing countries.
