Former England and Bath rugby player Matt Stevens is to host a talk for University of Bath student entrepreneurs, at his new café, on Thursday 29 October.
The event is organised by BANTER, the Students’ Union entrepreneurial society, to give students the chance to find out how businesses start as well as the real life challenges entrepreneurs face.
Matt has recently opened a new coffee house, called Jika Jika on George Street, with fellow rugby star Lee Mears.
Matt said: “I’m really excited about hosting the talk and sharing my knowledge of setting up a business as well as the pitfalls, with the students. Being a University of Bath graduate myself it’s great to give something back.”
The evening kicks off at 6pm with a marketing challenge for students to show off their business skills. Teams will present their proposal to Matt and store manager Jamie, with the winning team receiving a prize.
At 7pm, over Jika Jika coffee, Matt will explain how the business was started, the difficulties along the way, and his future ambitions for the brand. The students will then have the chance to ask questions.
Chris Hannaway, Chair of BANTER, said: “We’re really pleased that Matt has agreed to put on the event for us. I’ve been to Jika Jika and it’s a fantastic venue with really good coffee. I’m looking forward to hearing more about how he set it up and his future plans.”
Students are welcome to arrive between 6-7pm. Jika Jika’s address is 4a Princes Buildings, George Street, Bath, BA1 2ED
