Bath student wins one of 12 national STAR Awards

James Gower, undergraduate Mathematics student, has been presented with a STAR Award
which recognises individual achievement in the development of employability in spite of disability. Only 12 awards are available nationally and James is the first Bath student to win an award.

Uni celebrates another gold Bath in Bloom award

The University has won another award in the annual Bath in Bloom competition; the award this year is a Gold Award in the Community Groups category. The four areas that were judged were the Arrivals Square and herbaceous border, lakeside plantings, the new Woodland Court student residences and the Japanese Garden Courtyard.

Third call for bids to CPD Development Fund

Established in October 2008, the fund seeks to encourage University staff to work with external employers to investigate and develop CPD opportunities which meet the needs of their staff. So far 16 bids have been funded and the CPD Support & Development Office is now inviting further proposals. Deadline – 15 January 2010.

Low carbon straw house passes fire test

BaleHaus@Bath – built of pre-fabricated straw-bale and hemp panels – has fire resistance as good as houses built of conventional building materials according to new research.

Local pupils put their robot designs to the test

Teams of pupils from across the South-West will be entering robots they have built in class into an international robotics contest, in Bristol on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November.

Bath Professors discuss EU Grand Strategy in Brussels

Professor Adrian Hyde-Price and Jean Monnet Professor Jolyon Howorth (ESML) discussed at a recent conference in Brussels whether or not EU member states needed to define a ‘grand strategy’ to give greater coherence to their actions and aims.

Launch of postgraduate governance research network

The Department of Social & Policy Sciences has launched the Postgraduate Governance Research Network, an international web-based network for research students and early career researchers, founded and run by research students. With a focus on empirical public policy research, the network aims to provide a forum for debates about ideas, questions and problems relating to public policy governance and to stimulate thinking about how governance can be applied as a conceptual tool to develop critical perspectives on society, power, and public policy.
