Get ahead of the competition with an online management course

People wishing to develop their management skills and increase their chances of promotion are being invited to sign up for an online course at the University of Bath.

The Professional Skills Management Course, which is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute is being run by the University's Division for Lifelong Learning.

The course allows students to use flexible distance-learning through the University's virtual learning tool  'Moodle'.

The units are written in line with the Chartered Management Institute's (CMI) Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management and are ideally suited to practicing middle managers.

Depending upon the number of modules taken, students will either leave the course with a University Certificate and/or CMI Certificate or Diploma.

Matt Jones, course tutor said: "Students have enjoyed the flexibility Moodle has provided.

"They are able to study the course at any time and location to suit the demands and needs of their lifestyles. I have received work at 5am from Lebanon!"

Geri Lewis, a previous student on the course, said: "The opportunity to complete my CMI Diploma entirely online was one of the major factors in my decision to study at the University of Bath.

"Moodle is an excellent tool. It's intuitive, well-designed and easy to use; and you certainly don't have to be an IT wizard to master it!

"Doing an online course makes it easy to fit in around the rest of your life, and it's certainly an option I would recommend to others."

Applications are currently being invited for the January 2010 intake. There will be further intakes in April and October 2010.

Individual units are £240, or to study the full diploma (9 units) it costs £1,800.
