Implementing proposals for re-organisation - Deans of Faculty

Council and Senate approved a number of proposals for re-organisation last summer. The implications of these proposals are being worked through.

One of these proposals was for enhancement of the role of Dean. A generic job description and person specification for the role of Dean has been finalised following consultation is now available online.

Expressions of interest from eligible members of staff who wish to be considered for the role of Dean of their Faculty are now requested in respect of the following roles:

  • Dean of Engineering & Design
  • Dean of Humanities & Social Sciences
  • Dean of Science

The role of Dean and Head of the School of Management is exempt from this process as the changes to the role are not significant.

Your expression of interest will consist of a statement of relevant experience and aspirations for the role and a full curriculum vitae.

Please submit your expression of interest by Friday 29 January 2010 either by internal mail or email to:

Ian Cheetham -
Director of Human Resources

The aim is for the appointments to be made by Council on the recommendation of the Senior Academic Appointments Committee on 25 February 2010.

Each appointment will formally take effect from 1 August 2010 for a period of up to five years in the first instance (with reappointment subject to a review of performance).

However, it is expected that those appointed will carry designate status from 1 March 2010 to provide for a smooth transition to the new arrangements for each Faculty.

For informal enquiries, please contact the Vice-Chancellor by email or on 01225 386262.
