Essential skills for starting your own business

People thinking of starting the New Year by starting up a new business are being invited to put their plans into practice.

The University of Bath's Division for Lifelong Learning is running a new essential skills course to help people realise their dreams and take positive action.

Rachael Selley, Participation Manager at the Division for Lifelong Learning, said: "A New Year is the time many people start thinking about setting up a new business.

"It's often a turning point in their lives when they make changes.

"Unfortunately lots of people think about it but then don't actually do anything. If you want to be that person who takes positive action then the University of Bath's Division for Lifelong Learning has the ideal course to galvanise your dreams and aspirations, and put your plans into practice.

"If you are looking to generate a business idea, or develop an existing idea and get valuable input from someone who has already been through the process, then the Self Employment Essentials course is the ideal starting point."

The course is designed to guide people through the self employment options and help develop skills and confidence to start a new business.

Teaching methods include group work which enables students to benefit from the experiences of others on the course.

The sessions will be held at Carpenter House and are lead by Roger Croft, an experienced tutor who runs his own business.

Each module requires just 20 hours in class with additional time for researching ideas.  At the end of each module there is an  assignment which is designed to aid businesses progression.

Self Employment Essentials will be run between 6pm and 9pm, from 11 February.

There are three modules costing £150 each. Students can either pay for the first module to see if self employment is something they want to pursue and subsequently take the other two at a later date, or pay for the whole course upfront and save £50.

More information on the course is available online or by contacting Delia Slucutt on 01225 384414 or via email.
