A lecture at the University of Bath will explore the influence of Spain on the composer Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky.
The Russian-born composer, pianist, and conductor was widely acknowledged as one of the most important and influential composers of 20th century music.
In the lecture on Wednesday 10 February, Graham Griffiths will give an illustrated lecture that explores Stravinsky’s trips to Spain and how they were represented in some of his most charming neoclassical compositions.
Graham, a conductor and pianist, said: “Stravinsky savored all the characteristics of Spanish life with great gusto.
“The lecture will include the intriguing and often entertaining reasons behind Stravinsky’s tremendous impressions of Spain.”
Graham is currently a Visiting Lecturer at City University London and has taught at the universities of Canterbury Christ Church and Oxford.
His interests include neoclassicism in music and the Latin American Baroque. He is passionate in demystifying classical music and regularly presents lecture-recitals in the UK and overseas.
