Visiting Professor Doug King from the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering appeared on BBC1’s Countryfile programme on Sunday 21 at 6pm, BBC 1, talking about home generation of renewable energy and the new “feed-in” energy tariffs.
This follows a report by the Royal Academy of Engineering stating that roof-mounted solar panels and wind-turbines do little to reduce carbon emissions and that householders should instead concentrate on improving levels of insulation and energy saving measures.
Doug King is the founder of King Shaw Associates consulting engineers and has been teaching in the department since 2002. He was made a Visiting Professor in January 2007.
Apart from significant teaching in the department (Building Environment 3, Basil Spence and Final Project tutoring), Doug has also actively been involved in setting up and contributing to the new MSc in Architectural Engineering: Environmental Design.
You can watch the programme in full on BBC iPlayer; the report featuring Doug King starts at around 11 min 50 sec.
