Local people are invited to a free public lecture at the University of Bath on Wednesday 10 March, which will explore the art and architecture of Islam.
Some say Islam has created some of the most beautiful buildings in the world, such as the Taj Mahal, The Alhambra at Granada; and the most beautiful gardens including The Shalimar in Kashmir.
June Ward will examine the essential role played by religion, calligraphy and tiles before going on to enjoy examples of the breathtaking art and beauty.
June has worked as a guide and lecturer for the Victoria & Albert Museum for 12 years.
She has lectured for The National Trust, The Council for Arab British Understanding, English Speaking Union and the University of the Third Age.
June’s lecture is part of the General University Lecture Programme.
Other lectures in the current series include:
• Nuclear explosives: The technology of destruction – Dr Rick Marshall, 17 March
• Climate change: Challenge or swindle? – Revd Prof Ian James, 24 March
All lectures are free and open to the public, start at 5:15pm and will be held in Lecture Theatre 8 West 1.1
