Amy Williams made a triumphant return to the University yesterday, Wednesday 3 March, to celebrate her Olympic success at the place she says “feels like home”.
Family, friends, athletes, staff and students from the University cheered her return at a champagne celebration held in the Blues Café at the Sports Training Village (STV).
Children and local people lined the concourse of the STV to help give her a hero’s welcome.
Professor Kevin Edge, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, congratulated Amy on her outstanding achievement and presented her with an engraved glass bowl from the University. James Christmas, Vice-President Sport, gave her a Book of Congratulations signed with messages from hundreds of people across the University.
The celebrations were the culmination of a day of glory for Amy which began at Hayesfield school, where she was a pupil. An open top bus ride took her on a victory parade of Bath, with people lining the streets to greet her, before a civic reception in her honour at the Guildhall.
