Frozen yoghurt student takes business know-how to Iceland

A student from the University of Bath is set to speak at a global entrepreneurship conference in Reykjavik, Iceland, run by the world renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) this week (24-26 March).

Chris Hannaway will speak about setting up his frozen yoghurt business, Arctic Farm, now selling nationwide in Sainsbury’s supermarkets. Chris started the business with best friend and fellow student, Will Hammersley, launching in Harrods of London in 2009.

The conference brings together entrepreneurs and business leaders from around the world to tackle economic crisis through innovation, entrepreneurship and green energy.

The President of the Republic of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, will speak at the event.

Chris Hannaway, Business Administration student in the University’s School of Management and President of BANTER, the University of Bath’s Entrepreneur Club, said: “I feel extremely privileged to be invited to this truly global event. Guests from all around the world are attending, ranging from MIT students to the President of Iceland.

“Hopefully I can represent the University, School of Management and BANTER well, and make some new contacts and friends along the way.

“It’s a great opportunity to go somewhere I wouldn’t necessarily be able to and I’m also looking forward to taking some pots of Arctic Farm closer to the Arctic!”

Siobáin Hone, Student Enterprise Coordinator at the University, said: “Very few undergraduate students get invitations to speak at conferences – let alone ones organised by MIT. It is testament to Chris’s entrepreneurial flair and the successes he’s had with BANTER and, of course, Arctic Farm that he has been invited.

“This is an annual conference so it should be a great inspiration to other students and BANTER members – they could be representing us at the conference next year!”
