Implementing Proposals for Re-organisation: Heads of Department

Council and Senate approved a number of proposals for re-organisation last summer. The implications of these proposals are being worked through.

One of these proposals was for re-definition of the role of Head of Department. A generic job description and person specification for the role of Head of Department has been finalised following consultation and is now available online.

The arrangements for Heads of Department from 1 August 2010 are currently being reviewed.  All vacancies arising from this process will be advertised on the University’s website.  There are currently two such vacancies:

  • Head of the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering
  • Head of the Department of European Studies & Modern Languages

Expressions of interest from eligible members of staff who wish to be considered for either of these roles are now requested.  Your expression of interest will consist of a statement of relevant experience and aspirations for the role and a full curriculum vitae.

The aim is for the appointments to be made by Council on the recommendation of the Senior Academic Appointments Committee on 20 May 2010.

Each appointment will take effect from 1 August 2010 for a period of three years in the first instance (with reappointment subject to a review of performance).
