Catch the Bath Soup Company at Milsom Place this month!

The Bath Soup Company is now open for business at Milsom Place, Bath’s stylish shopping and dining area, tempting shoppers to try their community canteen and menu celebrating the best of local produce.

The company was set up last year by students from the University, following their success in the Apprentice-style shop competition run by the Students’ Union, and will be open in Bath until 9 May.

The canteen is serving a changing menu of fresh soup, sandwiches and smorgasbords, many made with local ingredients. Customers can also buy bread, cheese, chutneys, chocolate and a wide selection of coffee and teas.

The company kicked off the venture with a launch party on Friday night attended by MP Don Foster; Chair of Bath & North East Somerset Council Brian Chalker; Conservative candidate Fabian Richter; the Acting Director of Julian House, Hugh Prentice; staff from the University and friends and family.

Councillor Chalker, a keen amateur cook, spoke of his passion for healthy, fresh soup, concluding ‘soup is the future!’

The canteen is providing free cordials to customers, asking for donations in aid of Julian House.

On Saturday 8 May Andrew Sartain of the Wild Food Larder, a wild food and foraging expert will give a free demonstration and dates are being finalised for bread and cupcake making events.

Dominic Povey from the Bath Soup Company, who graduated in Mechanical Engineering last summer, said: “We’ve had a very, very positive response from customers. They love the soup and they love the vibe of the canteen. They’ve been very supportive of what we’re doing.

“We really appreciated the support from the University community when we were selling on the Parade, so I hope people will come and see us and enjoy the new dining experience.

“Demand is definitely growing and we’re finding more and more customers are coming back with friends. We’re doing quite a bit of marketing, so look out for our posters on the tour buses!”

The Bath Soup Company is made up of University of Bath graduates Dominic Povey, heading finance and marketing, and Jason Malone as Head Chef, with Ed Smyth, a graduate of the University of Warwick responsible for the shop fitting.
