Closure of Bath Assessment Centre

The University has recently undertaken a review of the Bath Assessment Centre (BAC) and, while recognising it has a reputation for providing high quality Study Strategies Assessments for disabled students, has concluded it is no longer necessary or financially viable to do so, given the development of other assessment provision in the region.

BAC will continue to offer assessment appointments until 2 July and will aim to close down its operation by 30 July.

Every effort will be made to support BAC staff seeking redeployment opportunities within the University.

Students enquiring about new assessment appointments after BAC has closed will be referred to the Student Disability Advisers in their own institutions and DSA-QAG for advice about alternative assessment centres.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the BAC team for their committed and high quality work over the years, and to emphasise that this decision is not an adverse reflection on their performance.

Instead, it is a recognition that some of the important reasons for establishing BAC in the first place no longer pertain, and the University is not in a position to continue subsidising this area of activity given the other demands on its resources.
