Silvana Stanford wins Staff Recognition Award

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2010 Staff Recognition Award is Silvana Stanford from the School of Management.

The award was presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Glynis Breakwell, at this year’s Staff Recognition Evening held in the Claverton Rooms.

Silvana Stanford has worked at the University since 2001 and is the IMML Placements Officer/UG Academic Exchanges Co-ordinator/Alicante Projects Administrator.

She was nominated by her colleagues Sandra Griffiths and Karin Roberts, in recognition of her contribution to the life of the University in the three areas above.

They placed particular emphasis on her contribution to the Alicante exchange programme, and her devotion to ensuring that visitors have a thoroughly worthwhile and rewarding experience at Bath. Feedback has shown the extraordinary care and commitment that she shows.

Professor Gareth Price, who chaired the Selection Committee said: “It’s a cliché – but true – to say that we had a difficult task this year, and Silvana has been a great ambassador for the University.”

The Staff Recognition Award is made annually to members of staff, other than academics, who have shown initiative, innovation, creativity and who have worked beyond the call of duty to the benefit of the University.

The Staff Recognition Evening is also the time when the service of many long-serving members of staff is recognised.

This year these included Cathy Dyer of Physics and Mary Fry of Pharmacy & Pharmacology, both technicians with 40 years service; and Richard England of Chemical Engineering who was the University’s longest-serving member of academic staff, also having completed 40 years service.

Pride of place was given to Ivor Powell, of Sports Development, who is not likely to be beaten as the University’s oldest member of staff.

Those present during the evening had given service to the University totalling more than 1500 years.
