Bath Uni band is Geldof's 'favourite by a million miles'

The band Roadshow, made up of four University of Bath students, has won the First Qualifying Contest of the YouBloom international song writing competition.

Roadshow has been active at the University for the last two years, having been a finalist in the Music Soc Battle of the Bands in 2009 and winning it this year.

The band entered the song-writing competition in early July but they had to make it through several rounds decided by online votes before their song was evaluated by accomplished judges such as Bob Geldof, Nigel Grainge, Rupert Hine and Damion 'Damizza' Young.

Positive feedback for Roadshow can be seen in the video of the panel of judges reviewing the song, when  Sir Bob Geldof states that Roadshow are his 'favourite by a million miles'.

The judges ruled that Roadshow's song 'To the lights' was worthy of competing in the final of the First Qualifying Contest, which was then decided by online voting.

Band members got busy and petitioned fans, friends, family and members of the University community through Facebook, Twitter, emails, gigging and an article on the Uni homepage.

The 450 votes that were rallied last week earnt the band £2,000 and a place in the Annual Semifinal, which will be decided by the judges in November.

The CEO of YouBloom has already been in touch with frontman Andy Liszewski to put him in touch with a music producer who will help produce a better arrangement and recording of the song to resubmit to the Annual Semifinal in November.

Should the band make it through that round, they will again be campaigning on campus to get as many votes as possible for a chance of winning the Annual Final and the prize money of £10,000.

Andy sends a message to staff and students at the Uni who read last week's article: "A massive thank you if you took the time to vote for us last week. We really appreciate it and are so pleased to have got through to the next round of the competition."

You can keep an eye on the band by 'liking' Roadshow on Facebook or looking them up on
