Mathematical Sciences professor elected to the International Mathematical Union

Professor John Toland from the University’s Department of Mathematical Sciences has been elected to the executive committee of the International Mathematical Union (IMU).

The IMU is an international non-governmental scientific organization which aims to promote international cooperation in mathematics.

One of the most famous prizes in Mathematics is the IMU’s highest honour -  the Fields medal – which recognises the outstanding mathematical achievement for existing work and for the promise of future achievement.

Professor Toland said: “I was delighted to have been nominated by the UK as a candidate for its executive committee and even more so to have been elected in Bangalore in August.”
