A photography exhibition charting the development of Tashkent, one of Asia’s most ancient cities, will open to the public at Bath Central Library next week (4-9 October), thanks to educational links made by the University of Bath.
Ian Crawford from the University’s School of Management was awarded a British Council grant at the beginning of the year to forge links with Tashkent State University of Economics (TSUE) in Uzbekistan and has since lectured at the university.
The educational links with Tashkent have inspired the Uzbek Embassy to bring their exhibition to Bath. It celebrates Tashkent’s 2200th anniversary and features 80 photos from the late nineteenth century to current day.
University staff are invited to join the mayor and the Dean of the School of Management at the exhibition launch from 5pm onwards on Monday 4 October at Bath Library.
The embassy describes Tashkent as: “a city enriched by different linguistic and cultural traditions over two millennia, immersed in myths and legends; it has been a muse to the artists, composers and academics and its lay citizens alike.”
The exhibition is held with the assistance and cooperation of the British Council, British-Uzbek Society and Bath & North East Somerset Council.
Staff who would like to attend the launch should RSVP to Christine Bone, International Relations Coordinator, or call extension 3861.
