Currently more than 200 students are participating in ‘Amity’, an international student mentoring programme organised jointly by Student Services and the International Office.
Amity is a volunteer student led ‘buddy’ programme which is offered to new international students at the beginning of each semester, and then, in Semester 2, it is provided for new incoming exchange & visiting students.
Mentors are current Bath students who have undertaken training on mentoring and cultural awareness. They provide personal contact and act as cultural guides in order to help new international students settle into University life and adapt to life in the UK in general.
As well as contributing to the integration of new international students, the programme also facilitates a cultural exchange for its participants, where our mentors make new friends and learn about other cultures.
This year, participants met with each other for the first time at a Welcome Event in September. The event was a great success as can be seen in the photos!
We would like to thank all students who attended the event and would also like to thank our International Student Helpers, with their help and participation the Welcome Event went very smoothly from start to finish.
The programme runs until November. International students and their mentors meet once a week and have a chance to get to know each other and share experiences.
If you are a British student, why not think about applying to be a mentor next year? Read what other students think about the programme.
