Thank you from Debbie & Emily Nethercote

After the death of former BUCS Computer Technician Derek Nethercote earlier this year, a fund was set up in his memory with the aim of making some future provision for the education of his daughter, Emily. Very many friends, colleagues, former colleagues and fellow trades unionists supported the fund.

A ceremony was held recently at which its very substantial proceeds were presented to Emily Nethercote by Director of BUCS Rod Angood, who said: “This astounding tribute to Derek has engaged staff throughout the length and breadth of the University. Without their massive and ingenious contributions this would not have been possible on the scale that we have achieved.”

Emily intends to use the funds to help develop her career in Art & Design, by acquiring the photographic equipment she will need, together with an industry-standard Apple Macintosh computer with the very latest image management software installed.

She also intends to use some of the money to attend a residential bereavement management course for children of similar age.

Both Emily and Derek’s widow, Debbie, expressed their deepest gratitude to everyone, and their hopes that people will find Emily’s choices for using some of the money appropriate.
