Upgrading the University’s HR & Payroll systems

Message from Professor Jane Millar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research)

Following a rigorous assessment and tendering process, I can confirm that the University is in the process of finalising a contract for the i-Trent product to upgrade its HR and Payroll systems.

This assessment was undertaken by a team including representatives from both academic faculties and professional services.

The Trent-6 system currently used is coming to the end of its life, and so replacing it now will ensure these key systems can continue to function as normal.

The upgrade has more advanced technology and security than our current system and is already being successfully used by a range of higher education institutions including fellow universities in the 1994 Group.

Once implemented, it will provide better functionality for managers and staff than our current system and at a lower annual cost.

To get the most from it, we will need to revise a number of the current HR and Payroll processes both for managers and for HR and payroll staff.

I will be chairing the project board overseeing this upgrade and implementation, which is due to take place during 2011.

As part of the implementation, we plan to invite managers and staff to join a ‘user panel’ to help with the changeover to the upgraded system.

We will keep you updated on the progress and roll out of this system but if you want to find out more, visit the i-Trent project website.
