The student-led enterprise scheme that saw teams of students running a shop for eight days in Bath’s city centre has won a national ‘badge of honour’ award.

Update on strike action this week

We have received confirmation that the University & College Union (UCU) will go ahead with strike plans for Tuesday 22 March 2011 and Thursday 24 March 2011.

Industrial Action: Tuesday 22 & Thursday 24 March 2011

University & College Union (UCU) has announced that its 432 members at the University of Bath will be taking strike action on Tuesday 22 & Thursday 24 March 2011 about pay and pension issues. Members of staff who decide to take strike action will be considered to be in breach of their contract of employment and the University will withhold 1/260th of their annual salary for each day of strike action.

Would-be entrepreneurs from the universities of the SETsquared Partnership have recently been pitching their business ideas at Deloitte in London in a competition to encourage student enterprise. The winners came from the Universities of Bath and Exeter, who had to present their business plans to a panel of experienced consultants from leading business advisory firm Deloitte.

Volunteers wanted: Earn £10 for one hour of your time

Researcher David Moore from the School for Health is currently investigating relationships between attention and pain experience. David is offering £10 to all staff and students who volunteer to participate in an experiment which takes no more than two hours and involves some questionnaires, computerised reaction time tasks, and a mildly painful heat sensation.

Welcome to new staff who started in February 2011

The new starters update gives the name, job title and department of all new members of staff at the University who started in the previous month.

Revision of University’s Intellectual Property Policy

The University’s Intellectual Property Policy has been revised following consultation with the trade unions and Students’ Union. Staff should note that the revised policy replaces that contained within their contracts of employment.

Report of University Council meeting – 3 Mar 2011

Sneak a peek at our new external homepage

As part of their ongoing work to redevelop the University website, Web Services are pleased to announce the soft launch of the new external homepage. The new page, due to be launched fully later this week, is the result of months of research, benchmarking, focus group and user testing.

UCU have indicated intention to strike on 22 and 24 March

The Universities & Colleges Union (UCU) has indicated that it intends to take strike action in response to proposed changes to the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). UCU will proceed with its planned action unless there is a resolution of its disagreement with the Higher Education sector’s Employers’ Pension Forum by Thursday 17 March 2011.

Vice-Chancellor launches University’s new People Strategy

The Vice-Chancellor addressed a group of leaders, managers and staff from across the University on Wednesday 9 March in launching the University’s new People Strategy. She emphasised the importance of the new People Strategy for all staff and how it is focused on developing and retaining the staff that the University needs.
