Prestigious research fellowship awarded to Dr Stephen Gough

Dr Stephen Gough, Head of the Department of Education, has been awarded a prestigious Research Fellowship by the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain (PESGB). The Fellowship will allow Dr Gough time to complete work on a new book (provisionally entitled Education, Nature and Society) that synthesises and significantly extends his work of the last 12 years.

Research in the World lecture report – A virtuous circle: science & technology

In the latest lecture in the Research in the World series, Professor Sir Richard Friend (Cavendish Professor of Physics, University of Cambridge) explored the relationship between science and technology, arguing that advances in basis science were, and are, often dependent on breakthroughs in technology.

University of Bath paper nominated as Nature research highlight

A paper written by Robert Beardmore, Ivana Gudelj, from the University of Exeter, along with David Lipson San Diego State University in the US and Laurence Hurst from Bath’s Department of Biology & Biochemistry, has been nominated as a Research Highlight by Nature Reviews Genetics.

New web standards:Turning content ‘lost property’ into ‘found property’

The general aim of these web standards is to enrich the online experience for our University audience by improving the web content quality (accuracy, relevance, ease of use and so on). These standards when applied consistently will have a major impact in delivering a good user experience for our online visitors based upon their needs.

Andy Savin, Web Systems Developer at the University, will be putting his cycling stamina to a gruelling test when he takes on a Tour de France mountain climb in aid of the children’s charity, the NSPCC.

Bath academic awarded honorary fellowship by HRH Sultan of Selangor

Drs James Bilzon & Stuart Miller (Health), recently visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to give invited presentations at an International Congress in Sport & Exercise Medicine (ICSEM 2011). During the opening ceremony, Dr James Bilzon was awarded an Honorary Fellowships of SSEMM by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor.

Louise Brown appointed as NICE Social Care Fellow

Dr Louise Brown (Social & Policy Sciences) has been appointed as a NICE Social Care Fellow. Dr Brown’s recent work as a Trustee with the Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE), her role as a social work educator and over 15 years experience of undertaking research in this field will contribute greatly to the new work that NICE needs to undertake since itsd remit has extended from health to include social care.
