Dragon’s Den star to inspire academics

Dragon’s Den entrepreneur Doug Richard is presenting a lecture to University of Bath academics on how to turn their research into business ventures.

The lecture, The Entrepreneurial Academic, is aimed at academics, postgrads and other researchers. It is taking place at the Claverton Campus on 15 June with an introduction by the University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Glynis Breakwell.

Doug is a successful entrepreneur and former Dragon’s Den investor and BBC personality. He is also the leading enterprise educator in the UK and is passionate about collaboration between world-leading research and commercial opportunities.

The lecture, part of its annual technology commercialisation campaign, has been organised by Bath Ventures, which identifies and develops the University’s commercial prospects. By transferring technology through consultancy, licensing, and new spin-out companies, the University helps to create jobs and the businesses of the future.

It is also an opportunity for academics to find out more about funding opportunities to commercialise their research.

Ron Humphreys, Director of Bath Ventures said: “Increasingly Government and other stakeholders are demanding clear social and economic impact from the research they fund. Our role is to commercialise the outcomes of this research and secure investment which will give traction to these new, exciting and innovative technologies.”

The lecture is taking place on 15 June at 12 noon in the East Building lecture theatre. It is free for registered University of Bath academics, post graduate students, and invited guests. Register here for a place.
