A talk at the University of Bath given by ex-Dragon’s Den investor Doug Richard was hailed a success by academics that left inspired with new ideas to turn their research into business opportunities.

The lecture, The Entrepreneurial Academic, was organised by Bath Ventures as part of its annual technology commercialisation campaign.
Doug is a successful entrepreneur and a BBC personality. He is also the leading enterprise educator in the UK and is passionate about collaboration between world-leading research and commercial opportunities.
Doug said: “It was great to see such a vibrant and enthusiastic group of academics and entrepreneurs coming together in Bath bound by their interest in science-based entrepreneurship.
“The University of Bath is obviously committed to the commercialisation of its research and the sentiment that was communicated today is that researchers there are eager to show the impact their research can have on real-world problems”.
Dr Tony James, a Senior Lecturer from the Department of Chemistry, attended the event. Dr James said: “What a great start to a technology commercialisation campaign. Doug Richard gave a captivating talk which provided a very clear and visual insight into the nuts and bolts of the entrepreneurial process.
“There was a definite buzz after the talk, which carried through to the mixer event. The mixer provided an excellent opportunity for networking with companies, entrepreneurs and colleagues.
“I came away inspired and with a clutch of new contacts as a direct result of this excellent event.”
