Student cycles Premier League in memory of mum

Will Procter, 19, a first year Sports Science student from Stratford-upon-Avon, will cycle 950 miles to visit each of the 20 football clubs of the Premier League, to raise money for cancer research.

He is raising money for Cancer Research UK in memory of his mum Hazel, who died of breast cancer last year.

Will’s mum grew up in Burnley and was a passionate Burnley Football Club supporter, so Will and his best friend Chris Walter will end their ultra-endurance challenge by cycling to Burnley’s Turf Moor stadium on match day, cycling round the pitch at half-time in the match against Middlesbrough on 10 September.

The pair, who will average 100 miles a day, have so far raised over £4,000 and hope to reach a target of £5,000 by the time they set off on 1 September.

Will, who was born in Burnley, used to cycle with his mum when he was a child but has not done any cycling in recent years.

He said: “My family are all chuffed to bits that I’m doing the challenge, and I know it’s something my mum would have enjoyed as she was very active. It’s been good for me to have something to focus on and lots of my family and friends are going to join me along the way.

“Mum was a very popular person and dearly thought of by lots of people, so they’re keen to join me to remember her.

“Chris and I are very excited about the challenge but at the same time it’s very daunting. We’re complete novices at this and I don’t think we really understand what we’ve let ourselves in for.

“We’re so grateful for all the help and support we’ve had so far with organising the trip and to everyone who’s sponsored us, including our shirt sponsors Trotec Laser Ltd.”

Will and Chris’s tour will begin in Swansea, heading to Queens Park Rangers, Fulham, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Norwich, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Stoke City, Manchester City, Manchester United, Bolton, Wigan, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle, Sunderland and Blackburn, completing their challenge at Burnley.
