A message from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Glynis Breakwell:
I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all who played a part in making our first ever Saturday Open Day such a huge success.
Whether you were involved in the work to get the campus ready for the big day, were down in the city helping people find public transport, or were here on campus to meet, greet and help our visitors, I think we can all be proud of the way we represented our University.
We estimate around 7,000 visitors were here on the day but our well laid parking plans coped admirably, and once people had made it to campus they had plenty of choices to find somewhere to eat or drink.
The Parade, our accommodation and the campus in general were looking at their best, despite the occasional heavy shower, and with the help of student ambassadors, staff volunteers, Students’ Union societies and a steel band there was a really vibrant atmosphere. I know that many of the visitors remarked it was clear that the University was a welcoming and friendly place.
The information fair in the STV was continuously busy and I know those who gave departmental tours and talks were doing so to packed rooms.
It was also very pleasing to see posters all over the campus promoting our “Sunday Times University of the Year” accolade, all produced at such short notice.
The Open Days are really crucial to our recruitment plans, and in the current changing environment they take on an even greater importance, but I’m sure the thousands of prospective students and their families who came this weekend will have left with a very positive impression of Bath, its staff and its students.
Thank you again.
