The Department of Politics, Languages & International Studies is sad to report the death of former colleague, Barbara Garraway, who retired in September 2004.
Barbara joined the University in 1977, first working in the School of Management, and then, in the early 1980s, being appointed School Secretary in what was then the School of Modern Languages & International Studies. She continued as Departmental Administrator as the School expanded and was transformed into the Department of European Studies & Modern Languages.
She made many close friends and was highly respected by students, departmental colleagues and staff in the wider University community.
Although she had been ill for a short period in her last year in the department, she recovered well and enjoyed a number of years of improved health and an active retirement.
Friends and colleagues in the department were saddened to hear that, following a renewed period of illness in recent months, she passed away on Friday 16 September.
The funeral has been arranged for Wednesday 28 September at Haycombe Cemetery, as follows:
12 noon - Graveside service.
1pm – Thanksgiving service at the Union Chapel, Church Road, Combe Down.
Barbara’s husband has asked for family flowers only, but has suggested donations to Dorothy House, which may be sent to G. Manning, Funeral Director, 106 North Road, Combe Down, Bath BA2 5DJ.
