Accommodation & Hospitality Services achieve IIP bronze award

Staff in Accommodation & Hospitality Services (which includes Security Services) are celebrating after becoming the first department at the University to achieve the prestigious ‘bronze’ level status from Investors in People (IIP).

The IIP inspector visited the campus last week and interviewed 47 members of the department to assess the grading for the award.

The inspector was impressed with his findings and particularly praised the department’s efforts regarding sustainability.

The assessor said: “Accommodation & Hospitality has a very focused strategy that supports providing value for money for students and the department, whilst at the same time demonstrating sound commercial practices.

“The ‘WE CARE’ (Sustainability Policy) itself is just one part of a complete management system within the department that also encompasses Key Values, Staff Development Performance Review (SDPR), Manager’s Charter and Staff Charter.

“A very clear approach to the sustainability objective and the current strategy of ‘WE CARE’ is particularly effective. A lot of time, effort and resource have been given over to ‘WE CARE’ and that has clearly paid dividends. It has impacted on the environment, the people that work in your organisation and, importantly, the bottom line.”

Jane Loveys, Head of Accommodation & Hospitality Services, said: “I am delighted that the assessor recognised the considerable work that the whole department has done in promoting sustainability, ensuring financial success whilst focusing on quality management by awarding us with the Bronze standard.”
