The eighth annual SETsquared Partnership Investment Showcase took place in London on 12 October where innovations from across many technology sectors were demonstrated by eighteen high-tech early stage UK companies.

Union action should not affect student experience

Landscape painter Alan Cotton talks at Bath

One of Britain’s most distinguished landscape painters will give an inaugural lecture at the University next month.

Alan Cotton is an honorary Professor of Art at the University. His inaugural lecture will be held in the East Building lecture theatre at 6pm on 2 November.

Over 1,600 students pass new Academic Integrity Test

Launched on 3 October by the Learning & Teaching Enhancement Office (LTEO), the Academic Integrity Initiative: Training & Test (AIITT) is a mandatory requirement for all students registered on an award bearing programme. Students are expected to undertake training and a test to gain an understanding of plagiarism and the need for academic integrity.

New accreditation shows University’s commitment to security

Bath has become the first university to be re-accredited as a Secured Environment – reaffirming our status as one of the safest campuses in the UK. The University first achieved the award three years ago. The police backed certification scheme is awarded to organisations that can show they have adopted six key principles for protecting themselves against crime. It promotes good security practice in organisations by focusing on strategy, process and people.

Innovative building project to help protect historic buildings

Researchers at the University of Bath are at the heart of an innovative building project working towards the protection of historic buildings. The team, led by the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering’s Dr Dina D’Ayala, has just constructed the first of three masonry buildings to undergo a series of destructive tests at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering, Lisbon.

Professor David Coley joins the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering

David Coley, Professor of Low Carbon Design, has recently joined the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering. He will head up the EDEn (Engineering and Design of Environments) research group. The group is at the cutting edge of research in design sustainability, natural processes and renewable energy, and attracts international funding due to its strong reputation.

Bath graduate’s sporting record results in London 2012 selection

Bath alumna, Alexandra Rickham (BSc Natural Sciences 2004), has been selected to compete for Great Britain at the London 2012 Paralympic Games in sailing. She will compete in the SKUD 18 (two-person keelboat event) with fellow athlete, Niki Birrell.

Alumnus supports PhD studentship for his department

Dr Brian Nicholson, who gained both his BEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering (1995) and his PhD Electrical Engineering (1998) at the University of Bath is providing full funding for a first class honours graduate to undertake electronic engineering postgraduate research.
