On Tuesday 22 November 2011, we hosted a visit by Wolf-Eckhard Wormser, the Chancellor of the Dresden University of Technology.
The purpose of the visit was to provide the Chancellor with an opportunity to explore international approaches to management in Higher Education, particularly financial management, technology transfer and estate management.
Mr Wormser was welcomed by Professor Glynis Breakwell and was given a tour of the campus by Martyn Whalley, Director of Estates.
Mr Wormser also had the opportunity to meet Professor Kevin Edge, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Diane Aderyn, Director of Finance, and Dr Rob Head, Director of Research Development and Support.
The Vice-Chancellor said: “We were delighted to host this visit and to share our experiences of HE management with the Chancellor of the Technische Universität Dresden. We are an international university with an international outlook. Consequently, we welcome opportunities to share good practice across international boundaries.
“It was a particular pleasure to be able to host such a visit with all of our ‘Sunday Times University of the Year’ branding brightening up campus and providing evidence of our high status in the UK HE sector.”
On his tour of campus, Mr Wormser was interested to see the concrete cool system for 4 West, designed by German company Kiefer, and the British-equivalent Termodeck system for the East Building. 4 West is the only building in the UK using the Kiefer system.
Dresden University of Technology is one of the ten largest universities in Germany, with over 36,000 students. Like the University of Bath, it has a long history of working in collaboration with industry and has a large portfolio of industry-funded research.
