One of Bath’s chemistry students has received a prestigious national Salters Graduate Award of £1000 having excelled in the subject throughout his studies.
David Liptrot, who completed a Chemistry degree in June and is now undertaking a PhD in the subject, was nominated for the award having demonstrated an exceptional commitment to his studies throughout the four-year course.
The Salters Graduate Award selection committee looks for candidates who will ultimately be able to occupy leading positions in the UK chemical and allied industries.
Candidates are expected to show some knowledge of the current chemical industry and the need for changing technology in the future.
Professor Gareth Price, Head of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Bath, said: “David’s dedication to the subject throughout his undergraduate degree was second to none.
“David is a highly intellectual individual who displays a great deal of initiative in his work. The department is thrilled that his efforts have been recognised with this award.”
David isn’t new to winning awards, having been named ‘Placement Student of the Year’ following time spent carrying out research in the medicinal chemistry department of AstraZeneca Charnwood.
David said: “I’m honoured to have been selected for a Salters Graduate Award. I put a lot of effort into my undergraduate studies, both at University and during my placement year. I graduated with a first class honours degree and am now enjoying my PhD research.”
David was presented with the award at the Salters Institute Annual Awards Ceremony on 18 November 2011, held in London. The current Master of the Salters’ Company, the Rt Hon Lord Butler of Brockwell, presented certificates and prizes to the winners.
