Staff Survey 2011: December update

Good progress continues to be made in addressing the key findings from the Staff Survey 2011.

As reported previously, considerable progress has been made in developing action plans, both at an institutional and departmental level, and an update was provided for Council at its meeting in November.

The Health & Safety Committee and Equalities & Diversity Committee have now had the opportunity to meet and consider the survey results in relation to those particular topics.

  • The Health & Safety Committee will receive a detailed 12-month action plan which targets work-related stress through the introduction of a stress management programme at its next meeting.
  • The Equalities & Diversity Committee has set up a working group with responsibility for developing a plan which will focus on a small number of key action areas. An initial progress report from the working group will be provided to the February meeting of the E&D Committee.

Continuing the theme of sharing best practice across the organisation, at the most recent Heads of Department meeting, presentations were made by three departments on the actions that are being taken at a local level to respond to the survey results. These include:

  • Introducing a voluntary mentoring scheme for departmental staff.
  • Holding a delegation workshop to understand where decisions are made and whether there is scope for delegation.
  • Refurbishing the staff rest room.
  • Including  discussing workload as a standard item in SDPRs.

Changes being made as a result of what staff said should now be starting to take shape across campus. We will keep you informed of developments so you can see what is happening to improve your working experience at the University.
