The University was approached by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, on behalf of the British High Commissioner to Brunei, Mr Rob Fenn, to take part in a one-week official visit of the Bruneian Minister of Culture, Youth & Sports to the UK.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Kevin Edge, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (L&T) Professor Bernie Morley, and Director of Sport Stephen Baddeley hosted the visit of the delegation earlier this month.
The Minister, the Honorable Pehin Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah of Brunei, visited Bath for advice across the whole of his portfolio, but with particular emphasis on sport, culture and the creative industries.
During his time on campus he learned about our Sports & Exercise Science programme, the activities in our Department of Sports Development & Recreation, met with Bruneian students, and visited the Sports Training Village.
Brunei hopes to host the South East Asian Games in 2017.
Professor Kevin Edge said: “We were delighted to host the visit of the Minister and his delegation. He and his colleagues expressed a real interest in the breadth of the University’s activities.
“Discussions were wide-ranging and extended beyond our many contributions in the area of sport to include our research work in the areas of sustainable energy and the environment.”
