Professor shows schoolchildren physics in action

During November and December, Professor Alison Walker (Physics) has been presenting lectures on her research entitled “Plastic displays and solar power: how can light devices be heavy?” as part of a series of one-day conferences called “Physics in Action”.

Uni wins JISC funding to support & develop research data management

The University has been awarded funding by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) to support and develop Research Data Management across the institution. Research360@Bath is a project to develop policies, infrastructure and training resources to help researchers at the University of Bath to get the most out of their research data, realise the benefits of good data management practice and comply with funder requirements.

KTA workshop report: Building relationships with external organisations

Dr Caron King, from Kingswood Plus Ltd, ran a successful workshop on ‘Communicating Your Research to Business’ on 7 December, funded by the University’s EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Account. Dr King outlined the preparation that can help you make the most out of collaborative relationships, including establishing beforehand exactly what you want out of the relationship and why the external organisation should care.

VC hosts SPS reception to celebrate Queen’s Anniversary Prize

The Department of Social & Policy Sciences celebrated the Queen’s Anniversary Prize award, at a reception hosted by the Vice-Chancellor. The award-winning entry was entitled “Influential research into child poverty and support for vulnerable people” and was based on our research, teaching and external engagement in social policy and international development which goes back over 30 years.

BIS publishes Innovation & Research Strategy for Growth

The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills recently published its Innovation and Research Strategy for Growth. The report recognises the importance of universities, research councils and businesses to the UK’s future competitiveness and outlines how government will support research and innovation through increased collaboration and investment.

Students’ Union collects Gold award in Westminster’s Porticullis House

The revised policy has been approved by the Executive Committee and comes into effect from today (8 December 2011).
