Annette Hayton has been appointed as the University’s Head of Widening Participation.
Annette, formerly Head of Widening Participation at Goldsmiths University, took up her new position today, Wednesday 1 February.
In this newly created post, Annette will play a central co-ordinating role for all the University’s widening participation and access activities.
She will work on developing and strengthening the University’s relationships with partner higher education institutions, schools, and further education colleges to promote access and achieve a more diverse and socially inclusive student population.
Annette said: “I am very much looking forward to my new role at Bath. There is already some very exciting work taking place across the University which will provide a firm foundation for future developments.”
Annette has many years of experience in managing activities designed to support successful progression to higher education as well as developing strategies to ensure that all students have a positive experience of university study.
She has also played a key role in establishing regional partnerships with other London HEIs, colleges, schools and LEAs.
Before joining Goldsmiths she established and managed the London Region Post-Network at the Institute of Education, University of London.
She is currently convenor of the UALL (Universities Association for Lifelong Learning) Widening Participation and Social Inclusion Network and has recently completed a successful seminar series entitled: ‘The Ethics of Widening Participation’ in collaboration with the SRHE (Society for Research in Higher Education) Network for Access and Widening Participation.
Annette is interested in how educational theory can be developed and applied in practice to promote positive change within the education system, aiming to combine theory and practice in her work.
She has written a number of articles and produced two edited collection for Kogan Page ‘Tackling Disaffection and Social Exclusion: Issues for Education Policy’ and, with Anna Paczuska, ‘Access, Participation and Higher Education’.
