Cyclists: Slow down on Widcombe Hill

A local resident has contacted us expressing concern about two recent accidents involving cyclists coming off their bikes on Widcombe Hill near Macauley Buildings.

This bend is notorious for cyclists losing control of their bikes due to excessive speed and in the past serious head injuries have been sustained when people have collided with the wall.

The Council has tried to mitigate the risk to road users by erecting a flashing warning sign to alert cyclists and drivers of the danger.

For your own safety and that of others, please exercise caution on Widcombe Hill and slow down.

Please also be aware that the bend is more difficult to negotiate when the road surface is wet; in the past the road surface has had attention to make it less slippery than normal tarmac but it is now degrading.
