Faculty Directors of Administration shortlisted for THE award

We’re delighted to announce that our team of Faculty Directors of Administration has been shortlisted in the category “Outstanding Departmental Administration Team” in this year’s THE Leadership & Management Awards.

This award recognises the shared collaborative ownership of initiatives across the institution’s leadership and management teams with the judges looking for the demonstration of innovative responses to the challenges and opportunities from new agendas facing higher education.

Our nomination was for the three Faculty Directors of Administration: Amanda Harper, Ann-Marie Hartland and Lucie Pursell, who worked together to develop a new cohesive administrative structure at Faculty level, following organisational restructuring of the University’s administrative staff in 2010.

The team successfully re-designated roles of departmental-based administrative staff into a Faculty-focussed model whilst achieving cost savings, co-located Faculty administrative functions where feasible, and worked with our Staff Development Unit to ensure consistency of management practice across the board.

Amanda, Ann-Marie and Lucie said: “Timescales to deliver our remit were extremely tight, and it was challenging to implement the new structure, but through improved collaboration and sharing good practice, we are now seeing major gains from this new structure.

“We’ve been able to bring together a number of initiatives across the University which has really helped us in promoting excellence as well as improving efficiency.

“Following on from the success of our proposals for efficiencies and improvements last year, we have recently submitted a further draft of suggestions to the Annual Planning team. We look forward to our on-going contribution to further such initiatives across the University.”

The award ceremony where the winners will be announced is on 21 June in London.
