Safeguarding children

The University takes very seriously its responsibility to those under 18 who are on campus and/or with whom staff and students have contact.

A working group chaired by the University Secretary has reviewed and updated all our policies and procedures in the last few months; we have also been taking into account modest changes to Government legislation.

We wish to create an environment which is as safe as possible, where staff and students can raise any concerns about possible child abuse promptly so that they can be dealt with effectively, and where CRB checks are carried out when appropriate.

Staff with designated safeguarding responsibilities received training from the NSPCC during 2012.

Our policies can all be accessed online.  Staff and students are encouraged to read those that are relevant to them.

Any queries or concerns should be addressed to the University or Departmental designated safeguarding officers (see appendix 2 of the University Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy).
