Bath engineer to appear on James May’s Big Idea programme

Dr Geraint Owen, a Senior Lecturer in Engineering Design in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, will be appearing on James May’s Big Idea programme on Monday 10 September.

The BBC 2 programme is titled ‘Things you need to know about Engineering’ and will be broadcast at 10pm.

Dr Owen appears in a section of the light-hearted programme in which James May aims to get the ‘plane’ truth about air travel, and will be discussing whether we should be afraid of flying.

The show states that when fully loaded, the world’s largest commercial aeroplane weighs 560 tonnes, the same as almost 50 London double decker buses complete with passengers.

For a sneak preview of Dr Owen’s appearance on the show, see the clip on the show’s website.
