Unanimous planning support for new GTA building and University Masterplan

We have just been given planning permission for the new General Teaching Accommodation (GTA) building and Council endorsement for our overall University Masterplan.

Bath and North East Somerset Council’s development control committee gave unanimous support for the proposal at their meeting last night (September 26).

The five-storey GTA building will offer a dramatic new hub of learning and teaching on campus with facilities ranging from two 350-seat lecture theatres to 30-seat group lecture rooms. It is due to open October 2013.

The University Masterplan provides a framework for the development of the campus until 2026. It outlines the development potential on campus and has been shaped by extensive consultation with our stakeholders and the public.

Martyn Whalley, Director of Estates said: “This is great news. To receive unanimous support for both proposals shows how much work has gone into ensuring the developments are right for both the University and the wider community.

“The Masterplan sets out how we plan to provide state of the art facilities and with the new GTA we will have a wonderful resource to match the high quality of our teaching and learning.”
