Student chosen for global social enterprise by former Apprentice star

A third year sociology student has been selected to become a Youth Ambassador in a global social enterprise set up by Melody Hossaini, a candidate in BBC1’s The Apprentice in 2011.

Will Stanning, aged 20, is one of 15 young people selected from over 200 applicants to join InspirEngage, an organisation which supports young people to fulfil their potential.

InspirEngage was founded by CEO Melody Hossaini in 2009 and she will support the Ambassadors, aged 13 to 26, to develop their skills and experience.

The organisation’s central aim is to support young people to develop life skills to feel more confident, work-ready and enterprising. It has engaged with over 1 million people in 100 countries, through visits to schools, colleges, universities and other institutions.

Will is now set to embark on an 18-month project that will enable him to learn first-hand what it is like to be part of a global social enterprise and give him the opportunity to contribute to the organisation’s work in marketing and event management.

He has been involved in a number of volunteering and fundraising activities at Bath and overseas, including project management for Student Community Action through the Students’ Union, fundraising for Bath RAG, and leading his departmental student society.

Will said: “I saw the invite to apply to become a Youth Ambassador on Twitter and I knew I’d found a volunteering opportunity that matched my talents and interests, particularly as I have aspirations to work in the youth sector when I graduate.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a social enterprise on a global scale and I am looking forward to all the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.”

Melody Hossaini, founder and CEO, said: “Not long ago, in the midst of designing new programmes for InspirEngage, I had a thought. The people whom we intend to benefit from these services, should centrally be involved in shaping them. InspirEngage is there to serve young people, and our team should reflect this.”
