University of Bath builds on Santander Universities relationship

The University has further cemented its long-standing relationship with Santander with the opening of a new branch of the high-street bank on campus.

The new branch was opened by Olympic medallist Samantha Murray this week. Samantha, who won Silver in the Modern Pentathlon at London 2012 and is currently studying Politics and French at the University, was invited to cut the ribbon along with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell.

Luis Juste, who leads the Santander Universities programme in the UK, visited the University for the event and gave a speech reaffirming Santander’s support for Bath.

The University has a long-standing relationship with Santander, and signed an agreement with the company in 2007 through its Santander Universities Global Division. Since then the bank has provided funding for numerous scholarships and awards, support for entrepreneurial activities, and for research.

Samantha Murray, who has also benefitted from the scholarship, said: “This year has been truly unforgettable for me. Although my sports career takes up a lot of my time, my University studies are also extremely important. The Santander Universities Scholarship has allowed me to juggle both my studies and my training at a University with world-class teaching and sports facilities. I am really grateful both to the University of Bath and to Santander Universities.”

The new Santander branch on the University campus will offer students and staff tailor-made products and services, and will open from 10am to 6pm to better serve the University community.

Jonathan Topp, Branch Manager, said: “We are delighted to open this new branch on campus. Although we have had a presence on campus since 2008, these new facilities will provide more space for customers and a cash counter, adding value to the products and services we offer at the University of Bath.”

Many of the beneficiaries of Santander’s scholarships and funding were present at the branch opening, along with many international students who have benefitted from the Santander Universities Scholarship.
