Students celebrate their graduation day

Students from the Faculty of Science graduated at Bath Assembly Rooms on Tuesday 11 December, celebrating with family and friends on a very frosty winter’s day!

Elena Conoy

Elena Conoy graduated with a Masters in Regenerative Medicine, watched by her grandmother who had flown in from Italy, and her father from Germany. She said: “It feels amazing to graduate today. All the hard work has been completely worth it and I’m so happy. I’m going to take a year out but I’m planning on going to Australia and I’m considering applying for a research assistant post in Sydney. I’m very sad to be leaving Bath as I’ve met so many great people and it’s been an amazing experience.”

Aliki Yiannakou, Manasi Phadnis, Matthew Wise and Katarina

Aliki Yiannakou, Manasi Phadnis, Matthew Wise and Katarina Tothova all graduated with an MSc in the Modern Application of Mathematics. Matthew, who graduated with Distinction, is looking forward to starting a job as a data analyst. He said: “ I’m going to be working for Mango Solutions in Chippenham, carrying out data analysis for pharmaceutical companies, so I will be staying on in Bath for the next year or so.”

Alison McBride

Alison McBride graduated with a Masters in Developmental Biology and her parents, brother and boyfriend were there to help her celebrate. She said: “I’ve loved it at Bath. It’s emotional to graduate today but I feel very happy.” Alison will now be pursuing a career in research.

Holly Smith-Baedorf

Holly Smith-Baedorf, graduated with a PhD in Biology & Biochemistry. As part of her doctorate she researched the possibilities of using algae in the Roman Baths as a sustainable fuel. Holly said: “I’ve had a fantastic time at Bath, I was here as an undergrad too, so it’s been eight years in total. I’m relieved to have finished my PhD and I’m looking forward to applying for a research post.”

Alex Pickersgill and his parents and grandpa, from South Wales

Alex Pickersgill and his parents and grandpa, from South Wales, celebrated his Masters in Medical BioSciences, enjoying his achievement and the occasion. Alex completed his undergraduate studies at Loughborough and has interviews lined up with HSBC and other banks. He said: “The course has been good, tough at times, but I got through it! It’s been an outstanding year, such a nice place to live and a good university. Bath sets the gold standard for universities.”
