The University will close for Christmas on Friday 21 December 2012 and will resume normal working on Wednesday 2 January 2013.
During the Christmas and New Year period many facilities and services on campus and in Bath city centre will operate limited opening hours.
Last internal collections of post
Please note that the last collection from each department/building will be 4pm on Friday 21 December except a final 4.50pm collection only from the Office of the University Secretary, the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, HR, Admissions and Registry.
Normal post routine will resume on Wednesday 2 January 2013.
Security
- The University Security Office will be staffed 24 hours a day as normal during the closure period and the telephone number is ext 5349.
- If you have any enquiries, please go to the reception desk in the Library, which will be manned by Security 24 hours a day - ext 3853.
- Emergencies: dial 666 for Security; 999 or 112 for Ambulance, Fire/Rescue services and Police.
- Carry your Uni library card! – If you work in a building that is access-restricted outside normal office hours, the doors will be set to ‘card access only’ while the Uni is closed for Christmas, so you’ll need your card to gain entry.
Student Accommodation
- The East, West and City Accommodation Centres will be closed from Friday 21 December until Wednesday 2 January.
- Resident Tutor Service will be running over the entire Christmas period.
- Also, we are organising a Christmas Eve Party for the students who are staying back over the Christmas period

Christmas lunches are available in four eateries on campus in the lead up to Christmas.

- Santander closes Wednesday 19 December and reopens Monday 7 January.

Student Support
- The Student Services Centre will be open until Friday 21 December and will recommence normal hours Wednesday 2 January.
- The Advice & Representation Centre in the Students’ Union will be open until Friday 21 December. (During the student vacation, when the Uni is open, the Centre’s opening hours are 10am-4pm weekdays.)
- The self referral listening@bath mailbox will NOT be responded to during the period when the University is officially closed.
- Students requiring counselling or mental health support should go to the University Medical Centre or to their local medical centre GP.
International Students

Chaplaincy Centre
- Open throughout the holiday from 9am to 6pm but there will be no chaplains on duty.

- Audio visual (Library – Level 2) will be open until 2pm, Friday 21 December 2012. It will open Wednesday, 2 January 2013 at 8am.
Out of Hours procedure
BUCS holiday dates: Monday, 24 December 2012 – Tuesday, 1 January 2013
During the holiday the out of hours procedure applies.
- Check the Out of Hours Serious Fault Reporting Page to see if your emergency is covered
- Call security on Ext 5349
- Security will have a list of on-call staff including Directors / Assistant Directors
- On call staff will evaluate / deal with the problem and call out appropriate staff (who are on call) to deal with the issue.
- If possible, you should also report this via the normal contact form with as many details as possible.

Christmas (e-)cards
- Students and staff can send free Christmas e-cards to their family and friends.
- Cards are on sale to students and staff from Imaging, Design & Print Services, 8 West Room 1.35, costing 45p each (envelopes are 8p each).
Estates – maintenance requests
- All normal, non-urgent requests can be submitted electronically to the Department by clicking on the green button on the Estates homepage; these will be processed on Wednesday 2 January when the department re-opens.
- Urgent issues & emergency repairs should be reported to security (as outlined above).
- Estates would like to remind everyone about taking energy saving measures over the holidays.
Imaging, Design & Print Services
- Closing at noon on Friday 21 December.
- Reopens at 9am on Wednesday 2 January.
Public Transport
