Ten academically gifted undergraduate students from the University’s Faculty of Engineering & Design have found out that they are to receive substantial scholarships from Ford to support them in their studies.
The students, who come from a range of engineering disciplines, will each receive £10,000 from the Ford Blue Oval scholarship fund over the next three years.
The Ford Blue Oval Scholarships aim to help develop the UK’s next generation of student engineers, scientists and innovators. The programme isn’t limited to financial support, and Ford Scholars are given access to a unique online resource designed to support them throughout their studies.
William Clay Ford, great-grandson of Henry Ford and executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, announced the scholarship programme earlier this year as part of Ford of Britain’s centenary celebrations.
The University of Bath has been working with Ford for over 25 years, with the company being directly involved in mentoring undergraduate student projects as well as many aspects of research.
Professor Gary Hawley said: “These scholarships recognises the strong links that have been developed and sustained with Ford over many years and that the skills of our graduates are fundamental to Ford’s future industry base.
“The decision to grant ten of these scholarships demonstrates that a Bath engineering degree has a strong reputation within the company.”
The scholarships start immediately, and will support the ten students over the coming three years. More on the scholarship programme can be found on the Ford Scholars website.
